Helmets vs. Shields Charity Basketball Game

Each year, Lakewood Police and West Pierce Fire & Rescue battle it out on the court for charity.  The proceeds from the event are split between the Lakewood Officers’ Charity and West Pierce CARES funds.  These funds are dedicated to return directly to the community through each charity’s programs.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st at 6:00 p.m. at Pierce College, located at 9401 Farwest Drive SW in Lakewood.  Come out and cheer on your local police officers and firefighters to support two great charities.

This game has been raising money for the community for seven years and in 2011 the addition of the Helmets vs. Shields Youth Basketball Skills Clinic was added for kids 7-12 years old.  The half-day clinic was run by Pierce College coaches and players, Lakewood Police officers and West Pierce firefighters, while kids learned basketball and leadership skills, all while getting to work directly with their local police officers and firefighters.

Admission for the game is just $5 each and is much more than just a basketball game. With a silent auction, raffle, t-shirt sales, and entertainment through the entire game, it really is a fun night for the whole family.  In 2011, the game raised more than $15,000 for the two charities.
