The events of November 29, 2009 affected this community deeply, but not more than it did to members of the Lakewood Police Department. Immediately after the killing of our four Officers; Sergeant Mark Renninger, Officer Tina Griswold, Officer Ronnie Owens, and Officer Greg Richards, our charity began raising a fund to help take care of their children. Nine children lost a parent that fateful Sunday morning. The outpouring of support from the community was overwhelming and heartfelt. It was felt in many more ways than simple monetary donations. In the end, we were able to raise over $3 million dollars to open a trust fund for the children of our fallen Officers. It will never replace their lost parent, but can help secure for them the bright future their lost parent would have wanted for them.
In the aftermath of this horrific event, we saw the need for a fund to help future fallen and injured Officers. At this point our charity created the Fallen and Injured Officer Fund to raise money to assist fallen and injured Officers and their immediate families. The fund is available to assist Washington commissioned law enforcement Officers or their immediate household in times of need. These Officers put their lives on the line to take care of us and we feel it is worthwhile to ensure that we take care of them when they need it. To date, we have donated $56,000. to Officers and Officers families through this fund.
